Can We Be The Best of Lovers?

"Can we be the best of lovers, not just friends? Just like in a romantic movie where strangers
fall in love before the picture ends.

And like the two lovers upon the silver screen, i hope out friendship turns into reality, not just a dream. and before the film
fades to black and the final curtain falls, my heart and soul want so

much to believe, that we too can become the best of lovers before we leave.
But, I am well aware even a wise man, can delude himself and self deceive.
So, here's hoping my wish is granted before the reel comes to it's end and that we too can become, the best of lovers, not just friends?

All I Really Need is You

All I really need is you.
don't care for sleek and fancy jets
and Italian sport cars,
the hollywood glitterati and movie stars
vacations at world class resorts and spas.

All I really need is you.

I can take or leave sailing to

exotic destinations on luxurious yachts,
cocktails with the jet set and super smart.

All I really need is you.

I have no desire to own a masterpiece

or any other great work of art,

purchased from auction houses bid and sold, exquisite pieces of jewelry
dripping with diamonds and gold.

All I really need is you.

I'm not interested in a chalet

nestled on a swiss ski resort,
or sailing on a luxury liner
to every foreign port,
that would be my last resort.

All I really need is you.

Soaking up the sun is not my idea of fun,
if truth be told,
the south pacific islands leave me cold,
diving for sunken caribbean treasures,
i'm not so bold.
For I have my pirate's bounty right here at home,
and I have no need to ever roam.

All I really need is you.

ONCE
(An anniversary poem)

I KNEW ONCE A BONNY OLD SOUL.
THE SUN AT DAWN, BORN ANEW,
NEVER ROSE NOR SHYLY STOLE
EVENING’S CLOAK BEFORE HER CUE.

ONES LIKE SHE LIKE AURAS CARRY
THOSE IMPISH ENERGIES OF THE AGES.
SO THIS DREAMER QUEENE I DID MARRY
TO WRITE MY LIFE ON HER BLANK PAGES.

AND THOUGH I LIVE A MORTAL LIFE,
AMONG THE LONESOME AND AUTUMNAL,
TO GLANCE JUST ONCE UPON MY WIFE,
LIKE OUR LOVE, I AM ETERNAL.

ONE YEAR DOWN, MY BONNY OLD SOUL,
AND AFTER IT ALL I NEVER KNEW
MY BONNY BLACK ROSE, THAT SKYWARD STOLE,
WOULD ASK THE GODS TO TRY FOR TWO.

Since
(A Wedding Poem)

Since the early dawn of time
When primeval poets invented rhyme
You have been what drive them mad—
Never a sweeter sickness has man had.

So, since you are here, please indulge
This bliss-bound bard while I divulge
Since when, and why, and how my dear
I’ve known my love for you is sincere.

When I was young, but only ten,
I met a girl whose heart was crystalline,
Shimmering and shining on all she knew.
Livya, that little girl was you!

When life threw at you Up’s and Down’s
You took each the same with very few frowns.
Your heart, I found, was diamond throughout:
A hard, but heavenly, gem I knew I could not do without.

Since those days you’ve grown to be
The friend, the inspiration that proves to me
I do not have to break a glass
Or jump a broom
To know I want to be your groom

Lord, our God, look down I pray
Upon what we create this day.
And, if asked to throw in my two cents
Forevermore I’ll say it is…

Since the early dawn of time,
When primeval poets invented rhyme
That you have been what drive them mad—
Never a sweeter sickness has any man had.

The Two Who Wish To Be One
(A wedding poem)

Love was never wrong nor right.
A decision made by Man could not have ever earned an audience like this.
I have seen Love pass by those in need of rest, in need of sleep.
I have seen him, Love, accost two souls needy and in need of food, in need of drink.
I have seen him nod and walk away somewhere—
Somewhere he might find two souls needing each other, needing to be One.

And there, at the feet of two who together are far greater that even he, Love,
A voice, not heard in the ears, but only in the heart of the two who wish to be one—
That voice, their voice, acclaims that,

"Love is never wrong nor right!
Love is but a creature in the night
That sees not the snares set to catch it or
The pain left for it to graze upon. No,
Love is a creature who moves to prove if only it might
That Love is never wrong, but always right!"

You Gotta Give to Get
(An anniversary poem)

They say you’ve gotta Give to Get,
You have to Love to Let
Them go and let them show
That no one else they’ve ever met
Can know the love they know.

How long will we last? Wanna make a bet?
Our names aren’t even written on the towels yet.
And I don’t think we’ll ever be so
Caught all up in life’s ebb and flow
That we do anything we might later regret.

So, Go on Girl! And never forget
Your smile makes me high, like the mountains in Tibet.
If we keep on giving and letting Love grow
No one can tell how high we can go.
‘Cause nothing in life is ever really set –
From rags in Rich’s to the cover of Jet.

The Night Was Made For Romance

The night was made for romance.
In the night our two hearts dance.
Under the stars our lips touch.
In the garden your embrace means so much.

The night was made for love.
Our hearts cooing like a white dove.
Your eyes sparkling like diamonds so white.
I love you darling with all my might.

The night was made for caring and trust.
And darling, God made this night for us.

Only Love

Love can sometimes be fresh.
Love can sometimes be new.
Love can sometimes make you happy.
And sometimes make you blue.
Love is the light that radiates from your eyes.
Love is your image floating in the skies.
Love is true.
And darling, the only love for me is you.

Our Love

As long as there is love, I will cherish you.
As long as there is life, I will love you.
As long as the stars shine above, I will want you.
As long as there are waves in the ocean, I will need you.
As long as there is heaven above, there will always be our love.

Is it really love?
or is it just a passing feeling
am I not convinced?
a bit uncertain of the feeling

Is it the way you make me feel?
so warm with joy and laughter
or could it be the happiness
from moments spent together

The lasting bliss, the kiss I miss,
The sweetest thoughts without a touch
The heart that hurts and bears a scar
thinking how far away you are

You're on my mind most of the day
And at night I go to bed and pray
An angel soft and gentle as you
Would make my sweetest dreams come true

Thinking about you alone or in class
Writing your name on my bathroom window glass
Wishing you were here
To love hold and care
Wishing I had you with me
To cherish and to stare

Into your soft and beautiful eyes
As we both travel to the skies
And mingle with the stars above
But is it really love?

I miss you terribly this day of love,

Miss you with a wound that stabs and aches.
I see the love around me, and it takes
So much strength simply just to move.
Soon, soon, my love, this waiting will be done.

You and I will have what we desire.
On days like this we'll sit beside the fire,
Undoing all the pain of days long gone.

Valentine's Day is a day of love
Where love is as bright as the sun
We share kisses, and even a hug
With people we call our loved ones
Unrequited love is oh! so harsh
When the one you love doesn't love you
You feel you're left standing in the dark
Wishing this reality were untrue
Well that's why Valentine's Day is so great
It encourages you to show you care
It makes you just wanna say
I love you and will always be there
I once loved someone in this way
And I was encouraged on Valentine's
I went up to him, just to say
I would like you to be mine

December 22-23, 2004

I woke up in a white room
with white lace curtains.
Snow covered landscape;
I'm in Memphis for certain

Yesterday, it took over three hours
just to travel the last twenty miles.
But nothing is like my wife's family
always being greeted with smiles

I was hoping for a White Christmas.
You'd be surprise how simple I am.
Be careful what you wish for
God may be listening to your plan.

Most of the nation is covered
with that dangerous and beautiful thing
I am grateful for arriving safely
for my wife's happiness is everything.

She wanted to see her family,
her father, uncles and aunts.
I've kept her in Southwest Texas too long;
this trip I most willingly grant.

So, here we are now
in a snowy southern wonderland.
Waiting for Christmas dinner to come;
a present only my wife can understand
